Keadeen Mountain has to be one of the hardest climbs in the Wicklow Mountains. The sides are so steep that my route covered over 2km to climb the 400 vertical metres from the road! To make it worse, the clouds descended and covered the peak just as I arrived and hid what must be a spectacular view from me. I was hoping to look directly down on to Brusselstown Ring (County Wicklow), but I couldn't see a thing.
From all around this cairn looks enormous, so I was surprised at how small it is when you finally reach it. It is 25m in diameter, but stands just 1.5m above the peat level. Most of its perceived height comes from the walls that have been built across it and, presumably, from it.
I'd love to thin that one clear day I'll come back up here and admire the views, but I doubt I ever will. It's just too much of a nasty climb!
